 COMPANY HISTORY

Welsh Farm Suppliers Limited was the Federal Buying and Administration Co-operative servicing the Agricultural Co-operatives and Farmer-owned businesses in Wales and the Borders.

Established in 1972 and based in Aberystwyth, WFS turnover peaked at over £30 million back in 1997. In September 1999 the Company acquired the business interests of Border Distribution Limited a Garden, DIY and Hardware wholesaler and formed the wholly owned subsidiary Border Distribution 2000 Ltd.

At the end of 2004 Border incorporated the Staff and Assets of Radnor Garden Supplies Limited to form the Amenity Division. Group turnover for 2005 was over £26 million.

In December 2005 the board of Welsh Farm Suppliers Limited began a radical restructure of the company. It was decided that WFS would curtail its administrative role and close the Aberystwyth Admin Centre. Furthermore, WFS and its subsidiary Border Distribution 2000 Limited would merge and future operations would be based at the Warehousing and Office complex at Craven Arms, Shropshire.

The result was WFSborder.
